God Is With You

Good Morning my friends,

Back In June 08, my oldest son Zakk & I went learned what it was like to volunteer, work, and go on a mission trip. We drove from Texas all the up to Casper, Wyoming along with other members of our church and other churches around the nation. To say the experience was rewarding would be an understatement. The organization that hosted the trip was a group called World Changers. We worked on houses & churches replacing windows, doors & roofs, repainted the outside out the house, a few minor repairs & clean up.  

I guess you could say that my week started off with a bang. Monday morning our crew of 10-12 kids & 2 adults arrived at our work site and met the home owner, unloaded our tools, got set-up, and developed a plan for the week. The home owner was a single mother of 3. Our duties were to replace ALL the windows in her home with new energy efficient vinyl. Remove and replace all rotting around the windows. My little team and I went to the right side of the house and got start

Suddenly I hear a loud crash and I jumped down off the ladder and made my way to the front of the house only to discover someone had rear-ended my Expedition that was parked legally across the street. I look up the street and see a young man getting out of his smashed truck and made my way to him to make sure he was ok. He got out of his truck and assured me he was fine. He began telling me that he saw all the kids that were working on the house and looked over to see what they were doing and must have swerved over a little to far. He hit the back driver side corner of my Expedition smashing, the bumper, deck lid, quarter panel, & taillight but luckily no glass. I told him I wasn’t concerned with the car because it can be replaced but the main thing was that he was ok. While waiting on the police to arrive; I took the opportunity to share The Gospel with him. He told me that he hasn’t been to church in years and had even stopped reading the Bible because he got busy with life. I told him that perhaps this was God’s Way of saying it’s time to come back to Me.  

The police finally arrived and told me when they finished writing up their report they would come get me so I went back to work.. The policeman came and got me about 25 minutes later and just as we got to the front of the house we hear another crash. Someone had just hit the driver side mirror of my Expedition. I looked up the street and saw the gentlemen had pulled over and was getting out of his car. I walked up to to meet him and was very apologetic. He told me the same story. He looked over saw all the kids and moved over a little to far. He told me that he was on his way to pick up his son because his truck broke down. He pointed to the truck which belonged to the young man that hit me the first time.. I informed him that his truck was a little more than broke down because he had ran into the back of my car and I didn’t think it was drive-able. The police finished the second report and I signed it told both guys that I would be praying for them, gave them my cell # and told them if I could help them I would love to.

It’s Friday but SUNDAY’S COMING!!!

I moved my car after that and went back to work.. After lunch, I received a phone call from my dad. He called to tell me that he had gone to the doctor that morning and his report showed that he had lung cancer. The news hit me like a ton bricks. I felt helpless. Here I was over 1000 miles away from home and there was nothing I could do. I barely made it through the remainder of the day and the only per I told was my crew leader whom was from my church. We made it back to the school where we were our sleeping quarters were and I started searching for Zakk. We walked outside and with tears pouring I told him the news. We embraced and cried together. He told me that he wanted to leave and go back home to be with dad and in all honesty I did too.. The emotions that we’re racing through my mind & heart were beyond a description. I told Zakk to go pack and I called Keri to tell her we were packing our things and headed home. I no more than hung up and my dad called me. He told me to stay because there was nothing we could do when we got back. He said we were in the best place not only for us but for him as well. He said we were surrounded by 100’s of God loving people that would give us the support we needed to make it through the week and that God was with us and He would supply our strength. I told him ok even though I didn’t like it. I found Zakk and told him we were staying. By this time everyone from our church had heard about the two crashes and were coming up to me and talking about it. The crashes seemed insignificant after receiving the phone call from my dad. I told some men & women from our church about the news regarding my dad and it quickly circulated around to ALL 750 or so people that had traveled there from all over the US.. I skipped dinner and chapel that evening trying to get some alone time to gather my thoughts but God knew that the last thing I needed was to be alone. He surrounded me with several friends from church and we talked and cried together.. Well mostly cried. After chapel we ALL gathered together as a church and prayed for my pop. After-wards Zakk & I knew that staying was the right thing to do… God was with us..

“Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” (Jeremiah 29:12-13)

It was on that day in June 2008, I learned that God is with me always in ALL situations and trials it’s just up to us to seek Him. I am reminded that Heaven’s bells ring loud continuously with the promise of God’s Presence. There are some people that will never hear those beautiful bells because their minds are entangled in the world and their hearts have rejected Him. There will be others that hear the beautiful bells only once or twice in their lifetime in the rare moments that they are seeking Him above everything else. It is God’s desire is that His “sheep” hear His voice continually, because He is the ever present Shepherd. Seek to find a quiet place where you can learn to hear His voice. Beginners need a quiet place so that they can relax their minds. Once you advance in this discipline, you will gradually learn to carry the stillness with you wherever you go. Once you step back into the hustle & bustle of life; you will strain to hear those glorious bells but remember, God is with you. 

“I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me— My sheep listen to myvoice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand.” (John 10:14, 27-28)

Ask, Seek, & Knock

Good Morning my friends,

I’ve seen and heard people claim to be disappointed with God. They’d say, “If He really cared about me, I wouldn’t have so many problems. But since He doesn’t do anything about them, why should I bother with Him.” I wondered if they even had a relationship with God before “all their problems” began or if they even tried to go to God to begin with. Most go through life without ever knowing God or giving Him His rightful place. Almost always, these people have never made an effort to seek God or find His answers to their problems and that’s sad. Instead of actively seeking Him, they passively expect Him to come to their rescue without any effort on their part. They ignore Jesus’ words, “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: (Matthew 7:7).  If you have never trusted Christ for your salvation, don’t sit back and wait for better time to accept Him; that moment may never come. If you know Christ and are struggling with a problem or decision, don’t try to solve it on your own. Commit it to God and seek His will without delay.

“Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near” (Isaiah 55:6)

Tranquility, Solitude & Splendor

Good Morning my friends,

As adults when we plan our vacations, we do our best to go somewhere with a lot of beauty and splendor. A place where we can try to get away from the hustle & bustle of everyday life and get re-energized or seek a renewal of our Spiritual well being. Most of the time we either aim for the mountains crisp cooler air or the ocean where we can see crystal clear water and feel the sand between our toes. In the majestic mountains we seek a place of tranquility, where we can get in touch with nature.. A place where we can hear all kinds of birds singing, the butterflies fluttering & the smell the sweet scent of the tall pines with a hint of brewing coffee from the cabin.. Then there’s the beach. The salty smell of the ocean, the sugar sand beaches, the crashing sound of the waves rushing a shore while the sun try’s to burst from the Eastern horizon on the rise while the moon slowly descends behind you. There’s something about the solitude of nature in the early morning air that soothes the soul but in all honesty I wouldn’t exchange the mountains or the beach for how I’m awakened almost everyday. My morning wake-up call is usually with a gentle kiss from the love of my life. She does this while her hands are cupping my face and she softly tells me it’s time to get up. I then give her a big hug while focusing on her loving beautiful blue eyes. I then eagerly dive directly into my morning prayer seeking my Savior’s permission to start my day as my boys use to do with me on the weekends when they were in early elementary. I don’t have to go on vacation away from the world to find tranquility, solitude and splendor. I find those things in my Lord & Savior and He is more refreshing than any ocean wave or a mountain breeze.

“Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” (Isaiah 40:31)

God wants you to meet with Him in the splendor of the early morning. It is there that He eagerly awaits for you. It’s in the stillness of Holy Time with Him that He will renew your strength and fill you with Peace and Tranquility. While the world hits the snooze button for a few minutes of extra sleep or turns on the tv for the latest in overnight news, take the time to connect with the Creator of the universe. He will awaken your hearts desire to know Him which will burn brightly in you. When you seek God’s Face in response to His Love-call, you will be blessed. God delights in your enjoyment of everything that’s true, noble, right, pure, lovely, and admirable. His Light and those things will illuminate in you and make your day even brighter.

“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable-if anything is excellent or praiseworthy-think about such things.” (Philippians 4:8)

The Unforgivable Sin

It’s Friday BUT SUNDAY’S COMING!!

Good Morning my friends,

People have the tendency to put different levels on sin. People often justify their sin by comparing it to the sin of someone we know whom we consider much worse.. In God’s eyes ALL sin is equal except for one. It doesn’t matter if it’s adultery, cursing, homosexuality, lying, or stealing… They’re all the same in God’s eyes. It’s man that has put different degrees on sin.

  

THE BIBLE TELLS US WHO NEEDS SALVATION..

“We all, like sheep, have gone astray.” (Isaiah 53:6)

“No one is righteous—not even one. No one is truly wise; no one is seeking God. All have turned away; all have become useless. No one does good, not a single one.” (Romans 3:10-12)

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” and as a result of our sin.”(Romans 3:23)

THE BIBLE TELLS US WHY WE NEED SALVATION 

“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”(Romans 6:23)

THE BIBLE TELLS US HOW GOD PROVIDES SALVATION    

“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”(Romans 5:8)

THE BIBLE TELLS US HOW WE RECEIVE SALVATION

“If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. for, Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”(Romans 10:9-10,13)

THE BIBLE TELLS US THE RESULTS OF SALVATION

“Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.”(Romans 5:1)

“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:38-39)

Salvation doesn’t come from Baptism, it comes from the belief that you are sinner and there’s NOTHING you can do to earn your way to Heaven besides accepting Christ.  

Examine yourself TODAY.. Have you accepted Christ as your Savior? It doesn’t matter if you’re a Baptist, Methodist, Catholic, Lutheran or…… What matters is that you’ve accepted Christ as your Savior..

THE SIN THAT CAN”T BE FORGIVEN

Jesus said: “All the sins and blasphemies of men will be forgiven them.” Think of just a few of the people Jesus forgave during His ministry: the woman caught in adultery; the murderer who was executed with Him; Peter, who denied Him three times; the deranged, demon-possessed man in Gerasene. Think about the Saul of Tarsus, he violently attacked Christians and was determined to stamp out the Church. If God could forgive them, can’t He forgive anyone, no matter what they have done? He can even forgive you?

The only sin God cannot forgive is the sin of rejecting Christ. Turn to Him in repentance and faith, and He will forgive. Billy Graham stated the question that he has received the most over the years: “What is the unforgiven sin?”

“Truly I tell you, people can be forgiven all their sins and every slander they utter, but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; they are guilty of an eternal sin.” (Mark 3:28-29)

Change is More than Coins

Good Morning my friends,

“You must be the change you wish to see in the world.”-Gandhi

     I say those words often, along with don’t gripe about the world unless you’re unwilling to be the change you want the world to be. I haven’t nor will I ever claim to be perfect or even close. I still have my failures. I still have my moments.. I still have my pitfalls but everyday I try to represent the change I would love to see in the world. When I gave my life to Christ, I knew that things weren’t going to be easy. I knew that people would be watching me like a hawk waiting for me to mess up, so that they could point out each mistake or call me a hypocrite. It’s happened many tines. When I accepted Christ, I knew that it didn’t mean that I was no longer going to have trials & tribulations. I knew that life wasn’t going to be stress free. People often turn their back on God because they thought once they gave their life to Christ that their life is going to be nothing but rainbows & butterflies. That couldn’t be further from the truth.  

     As a Christian there are going to be ups & downs, trials & tribulations and turmoil & conflict but it’s the change in your heart that will separate you from the rest of the world. Your reaction to those things is what makes you different. There have been times in my life when I turned to alcohol or drugs when life got difficult. There have been times in my life when I turned to worldly pleasures when the pressures of life began to squeeze tight.. I use to run from trials & tribulations. Things are different now.. I learned to embrace my conflicts. I learned to say bring it, pile it on me because it’s not me that’s going to be carrying the load. It’s only temporary.   The saying, “God will never give you more than we can handle” is not true. He wants you to be dependent not independent. Dependent on Him. Everything happens for a reason. We’re not to understand it but we’re to glorify Him in ALL things..

  

“For it is from within, out of a person’s heart, that evil thoughts come—sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly.” (Mark 7:21-22)

Very few words that Jesus spoke were likely to win Him the affection of those who opposed Him. Jesus cut through their veneer of righteousness to reveal the pride and evil that actually motivated them-and every human being. That’s why, over twenty centuries later, our world is still filled with conflict and war, turmoil and insecurity. The basic problem is in our hearts and the reason is that we are alienated from our Creator. Instead of giving God His rightful place at the center of our lives, we have substituted the god of self. Only Christ can change one’s heart which then will begin the changes in our world. God wants us to fight evil, poverty, war, injustice, famine, sickness, disease-wherever we find it. But our greatest need is for repentance and spiritual renewal.

My Stubborn Will

Good Morning my friends,

Yesterday was a long and difficult. It’s began around midnight when I was awakened from a deep sleep with severe bone and joint pain and muscle spams in my back that were almost unbearable. I immediately took my pain meds & muscle relaxers but the onslaught had already set in. After two hours of writhing in pain, the meds finally started kicking in which allowed me to fall back asleep for a couple hrs, but the pain wasn’t finished. It’s was a little after 4am when it kicked in again but this time it was even worse. I could no longer tough it out. I was at my weakest point. There I was lying in bed with tears in my eyes when I reminded myself that I have nothing to prove and that I don’t have to do this alone. I cried out to my Holy Father and asked Him to wrap His Loving arms around me and help me with my pain so I could sleep just a little. As I cried out to Him the pain slowly began to subside but it did not vanish and I was able to get some rest for a couple of hours.  

My stubborn will clouded my judgement. I know that I don’t have to do this alone. I know I can rely on my Heavenly Father to lift me up during my most dire need. He is always wiling to lift us up so that He can place His Loving arms around us and bring us comfort. We just have to not be to stubborn to ask. After getting a little rest, I woke up a little before 7am to more back pain. Once again I took my meds immediately but it was too little, too late. I moved from the bedroom to the living room and prepared myself for what I was about to face. As the pain set in with a vengeance, I went to my Lord again and ask if it was in His Will to reduce my pain enough so that it was tolerable. My prayers were answered again and finally around noon all the pain had totally subsided which in turn allowed me to get some much needed rest. I’m probably as stubborn as the come especially when it comes to taking meds. I just don’t like prescription meds, especially pain meds because I don’t like to feel doped up. The only prescription meds I don’t hesitate to take are my nausea meds. The nausea that is caused by chemo is too much. This bone & joint pain is all new to me. I’ve talked to several cancer patients that have gone through it before but their description off it didn’t even come close. The back pain and spasms is by far the worse. I guess with my core being compromised with my last surgery, it’s expected for my back to be weakened..

“But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.” (‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭12:9‬)

Becoming a Christian is a once-for-all event, when you repent of your sins and cast yourself on Christ alone for our salvation. We are converted instantly when God takes us “out of darkness into His marvelous light” (1 Peter 2:9). Being a Christian is a daily, ongoing experience. It’s a lifelong process of daily repentance and faith, of turning from sin and seeking to live for Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit. That’s where our wills come in. Although we have been converted and God has come to live in us, our old nature is still alive and kicking and Satan will also be doing everything within his power to trip you up.. It is our stubborn wills that demand us to put ourselves first instead of Christ. It’s a difficult job trying to bring our stubborn wills into submission to Christ, but once we do, it’s as if a misplaced vertebra has snapped back into place. Instead of the stress and tension of a life without the harmony with God, we discover the Serenity & Peace of His Holy Presence..

“Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord,.” (Acts 3:19)

The Promise of Prayer

Good Morning my friends, 

“I have been driven many times upon my knees by the overwhelming conviction that I had no where else to go. My own wisdom and that of all about me seemed insufficient for that day.”― Abraham Lincoln  

 When all else fails we usually turn our eyes upon God. I’ve been there done that. My choices in life get me in a hard spot that I can’t get out of by myself so as a last result I started praying. It’s a shame that we turn to God as a last resort.. He should always be our first choice. We have the Perfect example of how we should approach life every daily with Jesus but yet we consistently try to wing it and do it our own way. I tried to change Moët f my adult life but every time I started, I started with my outward appearance. Now when I look back on my transformation, I find it amusing. There I was wanting to make changes but I was just working on what society saw.. There I was maybe a little thinner and in better shape but still the same ugly person on the inside. If you want to make changes in yourself, it starts from the inside. You’ve got to change what’s in your heart. When I finally made the decision to change, I knew that the ONLY way for that to happen was for me to call upon God. He was the only One that could make the changes in me to get me where I wanted to be and I submitted toHim willingly.  

Prayer changed my life and it was prayer that changed me from the inside out. I’m not perfect by any means. I still get angry at they way people drive, I still get frustrated at doctors offices’ and many other things. 

“We tend to use prayer as a last resort, but God wants it to be our first line of defense. We pray when there’s nothing else we can do, but God wants us to pray before we do anything at all.  Most of us would prefer, however, to spend our time doing something that will get immediate results. We don’t want to wait for God to resolve matters in His good time because His idea of ‘good time’ is seldom in sync with ours.”― Oswald Chambers

 One of the most amazing things in all the Scriptures is how much time Jesus spent in prayer. He had only three years of public ministry, yet He was never too hurried to spend hours in prayer. He prayed before every difficult task confronting Him. He prayed with regularity.. He never began a day began or closed a day in which, He did not unfold His soul before His Father. It’s a stark difference between how quickly and carelessly we pray in contrast. There are small glimpses of memorized verses that are hastily spoken in the morning; then we say good-bye to God for the rest of the day, until it’s time to rush through a few closing petitions at nighty. Yet the Bible shows the wonderful promises that God gives to those of us who pray. Why would we not make prayer time a high priority? Be prepared as you explore God’s promise to those who pray with faith and humility toward His will.

“Whatever you ask the Father in My name HE will give you.” (John 16:23)
