Derailing Your Train

Good Morning my friends,
Don’t you love it when you’re traveling down the railroad of life with everything as close to perfect as it can possibly be and then suddenly your train derails? I have never quite understood how something as insignificant as a grain of sand could derail a big old locomotive, but it happens quite frequently.

Having two burly teenage boys had its advantages but on the flip-side there were times when it was very frustrating. It was frustrating because they have the tendency to be not just moody, but smelly and messy as well. I can remember one afternoon several years ago I walked thru their rooms only to find numerous empty Gatorade bottles over-flowing their trash cans in to the floor, there were several empty cups on their night stand, clothes & shoes covering their floor & bed and they were both laying on their bed playing Call of Duty or some other game.   I’m not sure what bothered me the most that day but I calmly asked them to pick up their rooms & empty their trash and went back to what I was doing. I let about an hour half pass and I went back to inspect their work only to discover that it looked the same as before. I calmly asked if they heard me tell them to pick up their rooms. They both replied, “yes”. So of course my next question was, “then why isn’t it done?” One of them replies, “oh I didn’t know you meant now.” I’m not sure why something as insignificant as cleaning their room within a certain timeframe was so important to me but I it was that day. I allowed myself to lose focus of Jesus and I lost control of my emotions and kind of exploded. I told them in a very loud stern voice, “if your room, bathroom & closet wasn’t cleaned to my satisfaction within the next 90 minutes their would be consequences for both of them to face. ” Of course Keri heard the commotion and come to see what was going on. As I walked back into to the living room, she filled me in on a conversation that she had earlier in the morning with them, which she had told them that she wanted their rooms cleaned up before they went to bed. I allowed my train to derail because of something as insignificant as MY timely manner.. I’ve learned to remain in Him and stay focused on Him as much as possible but there are still times when my train derails over the simplest of things.. The lesson I learned from my boys ordeal is that nothing insignificant is worth derailing your train if the end result is completed..

“Blessed are those who have learned to acclaim you, who walk in the light of your presence, Lord.” (Psalm 89:15)

Learn to approach your problem with a light touch. When your mind races towards a problem area, we tend to focus on the situation so intensely that we lose sight of Jesus. You races towards your difficulty as if you had to conquer it immediately. Your mind gears up for the battle and your body becomes tense and anxious. Unless you achieve total victory, you feel defeated. But there is a better way. When one of your problem starts to overshadow your thoughts, bring it to Jesus. Talk to Him about it and look at it in the Light of His Presence. This puts some much needed space between you and your problem which allows you to see things from His perspective. You will be surprised at the results. Sometimes you may even laugh at yourself about being so serious about something so insignificant. You will always have trouble in this life. But more importantly, you will always have Him with you, helping you handle whatever you encounter. Approach problems with a light touch by viewing them in His revealing Light.

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)

MY CHALLENGE PRAYER for YOU… Don’t allow something insignificant to derail your train..
I hope you have a TREMENDOUS day…. Blessings & much love……D
