God Is With You

Good Morning my friends,

Back In June 08, my oldest son Zakk & I went learned what it was like to volunteer, work, and go on a mission trip. We drove from Texas all the up to Casper, Wyoming along with other members of our church and other churches around the nation. To say the experience was rewarding would be an understatement. The organization that hosted the trip was a group called World Changers. We worked on houses & churches replacing windows, doors & roofs, repainted the outside out the house, a few minor repairs & clean up.

I guess you could say that my week started off with a bang. Monday morning our crew of 10-12 kids & 2 adults arrived at our work site and met the home owner, unloaded our tools, got set-up, and developed a plan for the week. The home owner was a single mother of 3. Our duties were to replace ALL the windows in her home with new energy efficient vinyl. Remove and replace all rotting around the windows. My little team and I went to the right side of the house and got start

Suddenly I hear a loud crash and I jumped down off the ladder and made my way to the front of the house only to discover someone had rear-ended my Expedition that was parked legally across the street. I look up the street and see a young man getting out of his smashed truck and made my way to him to make sure he was ok. He got out of his truck and assured me he was fine. He began telling me that he saw all the kids that were working on the house and looked over to see what they were doing and must have swerved over a little to far. He hit the back driver side corner of my Expedition smashing, the bumper, deck lid, quarter panel, & taillight but luckily no glass. I told him I wasn’t concerned with the car because it can be replaced but the main thing was that he was ok. While waiting on the police to arrive; I took the opportunity to share The Gospel with him. He told me that he hasn’t been to church in years and had even stopped reading the Bible because he got busy with life. I told him that perhaps this was God’s Way of saying it’s time to come back to Me.

The police finally arrived and told me when they finished writing up their report they would come get me so I went back to work.. The policeman came and got me about 25 minutes later and just as we got to the front of the house we hear another crash. Someone had just hit the driver side mirror of my Expedition. I looked up the street and saw the gentlemen had pulled over and was getting out of his car. I walked up to to meet him and was very apologetic. He told me the same story. He looked over saw all the kids and moved over a little to far. He told me that he was on his way to pick up his son because his truck broke down. He pointed to the truck which belonged to the young man that hit me the first time.. I informed him that his truck was a little more than broke down because he had ran into the back of my car and I didn’t think it was drive-able. The police finished the second report and I signed it told both guys that I would be praying for them, gave them my cell # and told them if I could help them I would love to.

It’s Friday but SUNDAY’S COMING!!!

I moved my car after that and went back to work.. After lunch, I received a phone call from my dad. He called to tell me that he had gone to the doctor that morning and his report showed that he had lung cancer. The news hit me like a ton bricks. I felt helpless. Here I was over 1000 miles away from home and there was nothing I could do. I barely made it through the remainder of the day and the only per I told was my crew leader whom was from my church. We made it back to the school where we were our sleeping quarters were and I started searching for Zakk. We walked outside and with tears pouring I told him the news. We embraced and cried together. He told me that he wanted to leave and go back home to be with dad and in all honesty I did too.. The emotions that we’re racing through my mind & heart were beyond a description. I told Zakk to go pack and I called Keri to tell her we were packing our things and headed home. I no more than hung up and my dad called me. He told me to stay because there was nothing we could do when we got back. He said we were in the best place not only for us but for him as well. He said we were surrounded by 100’s of God loving people that would give us the support we needed to make it through the week and that God was with us and He would supply our strength. I told him ok even though I didn’t like it. I found Zakk and told him we were staying. By this time everyone from our church had heard about the two crashes and were coming up to me and talking about it. The crashes seemed insignificant after receiving the phone call from my dad. I told some men & women from our church about the news regarding my dad and it quickly circulated around to ALL 750 or so people that had traveled there from all over the US.. I skipped dinner and chapel that evening trying to get some alone time to gather my thoughts but God knew that the last thing I needed was to be alone. He surrounded me with several friends from church and we talked and cried together.. Well mostly cried. After chapel we ALL gathered together as a church and prayed for my pop. After-wards Zakk & I knew that staying was the right thing to do… God was with us..

“Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” (Jeremiah 29:12-13)

It was on that day in June 2008, I learned that God is with me always in ALL situations and trials it’s just up to us to seek Him. I am reminded that Heaven’s bells ring loud continuously with the promise of God’s Presence. There are some people that will never hear those beautiful bells because their minds are entangled in the world and their hearts have rejected Him. There will be others that hear the beautiful bells only once or twice in their lifetime in the rare moments that they are seeking Him above everything else. It is God’s desire is that His “sheep” hear His voice continually, because He is the ever present Shepherd. Seek to find a quiet place where you can learn to hear His voice. Beginners need a quiet place so that they can relax their minds. Once you advance in this discipline, you will gradually learn to carry the stillness with you wherever you go. Once you step back into the hustle & bustle of life; you will strain to hear those glorious bells but remember, God is with you.

“I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me— My sheep listen to myvoice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand.” (John 10:14, 27-28)

MY CHALLENGE to YOU… Listen for the glorious bells…

I hope that you all have FANTASTIC day.. Blessings & much love….D

ALWAYS…..Live YOUR life like it’s your LAST 24!!!

God’s Amazing LOve

Good Morning my friends,

There is no doubt that we deserve far greater consequences for our rebellion and rejection of God than we will ever receive here on earth. I was thinking about about three years ago when I went through my first round of chemo at Harris Hospital.. I remember as I was walking to my room looking at all the people on the chemo floor and I was by far the healthiest person on the floor. That evening I couldn’t help but thank God because although I was going through a trial in my life, but I was still healthy.

I can remember praying that night after my first chemo treatment. I found myself praying to be blessed with minimal nausea and other side effects as well as good healt. I stopped myself and asked, “what I was doing? Really!! I should be praying for those that have been on the 7th floor of Harris Hospital for weeks or months. Those were the people that needed my prayers for good health.. I know many of you will come to my defense and say I should be praying for my good health as well but my point is why use my time on myself when there’s so many people praying for me and I don’t know of any that are praying for them. There’s someone else out-there that needs my prayer much more than myself. God knows my needs and is blessing me, I believe He is going to continue to bless me with what I need.

Have you ever thought about what you would do with the human race if you were God?

How would you treat them in light of their rebellion, the neglect and mockery of you?

We really can’t put ourselves in God’s shoes. He is far greater than we are and could ever be.

If you were God would you be tempted to wipe out the human race and blot them from your memory?

Would you even try to do anything good for them, knowing that you would still be rejected?

That isn’t God’s way. The proof is Jesus Christ. When Adam and Eve rebelled against God, He punished them by sending death to the human race. But He refused to stamp them out, and even promised an eventual way of salvation. That way is Jesus Christ, who loved us so much that He gave His life for us. Thank God today for His Grace to you. Grace that is greater than all your sins…
My friends, I want something more.. I don’t want to just say a prayer and pat myself on the back and beat my chest. I want to change people’s life. I want to make a difference.. I want to change how people think. I want people to feel God’s presence. I want the chemo patients to know that God is on the 7th floor. I want your prayers that are intended for me to go to those people that are really suffering on the 7th floor. You don’t need to know their name. Pray that they may feel God presence and feel Him strengthening their bodies. They need prayer too. After each chemo treatment that I have received up until April this year, I have walked out of my room to my car under my own strength. That is a blessing from God. Our society is the way it is because we have become selfish. We worry about ourselves only.   It’s ALL about me and me feeling good.

What about those that don’t have anyone?

Those that have been forgotten?

What about those that don’t know God?

Our country need a miracles and God is the only one I know of that’s in the miracle business but it all starts with you and a change of heart…

“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8)

MY CHALLENGE PRAYER for YOU… Lift up those on the 7th floor and look at your heart. Do you want a pat on the back that gives you a fuzzy feeling?

I hope that you all have a TERRIFIC day.. Blessings & much love….D

ALWAYS…..Live YOUR life like it’s your LAST 24!!!

FAMILIES OF FAITH

Good Morning my friends,

The family is the most important institution in the world. It was God’s original idea. It was not the invention of sociologist or economists or government bureaucrats who decided it would make society run more smoothly. Families existed before cities and governments, before written language, nations, temples and churches.

It is in the home that character and integrity are formed, morals are learned , values are made clear, and goals are set. These are characteristics are embedded in your heart and soul at a very young age and last a lifetime. If they aren’t formed correctly, they will result in patterns that are bad which will last a lifetime as well, especially if God doesn’t intervene.

The biggest problem in America today is that we have lost site of family and what it means. It appears that two people get married have a couple of kids and then they live separate lives or better yet they realize that marriage, raising kids is much more work than they can handle so they divorce. Over the years, I’ve noticed that it’s as if parents look at family as a competition. They judge each other by the size of their houses, how luxurious their cars are, size of their boat…etc..etc.. They’ve gotten wrapped up in their need to keep up with the Jones’. In fact they’ve gotten so wrapped up in it that they have sacrificed their kids to compete without even realizing it. The number one reason for the cause of divorce today is due to finances. Living beyond your means.

My friends, about 10 years ago, me and my family moved into a 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom 900 sq ft apartment for 3 months. I have to first admit that it was very tight living quarter but we made it work. As I look back at all the situations we lived in that one was the most rewarding when it comes to family. We were forced to spend a lot of time together and we did and because of it we got close. I wouldn’t trade those three months for a lifetime in a mansion. Today, Satan is attacking the family as never before. But most don’t have a clue of what defenses you use against such attacks? Our very best defense is the Word of God. That’s what Jesus used to defeat Satan’s temptations, so if it’s good enough for Him it should be good enough for you. To work on you & your families defenses you should start by reading & studying the Bible together as a family. Also have family family devotions where you discuss the meaning of the devotion. You should also pray for one another daily by name. You have to always remain on guard against the forces of would like nothing more than to pull your family apart. Parents must commit their marriages to Christ, and make Him the center of your home and life.

“Through wisdom a house is built, And by understanding it is established.” (Proverbs 24:3)

MY CHALLENGE PRAYER for YOU……. Look at your family and see if it’s happening to your and if it is do something about it.

I hope that you all have a WONDERFUL day.. Blessings & much love….D

ALWAYS…..Live YOUR life like it’s your LAST 24!!!

The Highest Calling

Good Morning my friends,

When the Standard Oil Company was looking for a representative in the Far East, they approached a missionary and offered him $10,000. He turned down the offer. They raised it to $25,000, and he turned it down again. They raised it to $50,000, and he rejected it once more.

     “What’s wrong?” they asked.

He replied, “Your price is all right, but your job is too small.” God called him to be a missionary, and anything else was not worthy of his consideration.

What would we be for Jesus Christ? Most Christians are not called to be missionaries or preachers, but they are called to follow Christ. They are called to be faithful wherever He puts them–in school, in the home, in the factory or office, in the neighborhood and nation. They are called to be controlled by the Spirit and to bear the fruit of the Spirit. They are called to be Christ’s ambassadors wherever God puts them. Nothing less than God’s call is worthy of our consideration.

“So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple. (Luke 14:33)

Missionaries are amazing people. The things they do to serve Christ go unnoticed by the general public most of the time. The general public would probably consider the refusal to accept $10-50k crazy especially to live in the accommodations they were probably going to be living in but serving Christ is about more than money. How much is a lost soul worth? What I mean if you knew a family member or best friend was headed for hell, what would you pay for them to seek salvation? Missionaries , pastors, & evangelist believe a lost soul is priceless.. Meaning that they wouldn’t accept any amount of money to turn their back on all the lost in the world.

Can you imagine how this world would be if everyone chose to share Christ with all their friends, all their family and all the people at work? Many church goers never share Christ. You would never know they have a relationship with Christ.
Sharing your testimony with your family, friends & colleagues shouldn’t be a problem.. You are just planting the seed. God will cultivate the seed and in all likelihood has already been working on their heart anyway…

MY CHALLENGE PRAYER for YOU… Make the decision to plant some seeds today with your friends & colleagues..

I hope that you all have a TERRIFIC day.. Blessings & much love….D

ALWAYS…..Live YOUR life like it’s your LAST 24!!!

Finding Fullfillment

Good Morning my friends,

Temptation is nothing to play around with. In fact it’s a losing battle. The Bible tells us in 1 Peter 5:8, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.” He’s waiting in the bushes when you’re home alone, he’s sitting in the chair next to you when you’re having a guy’s/girl’s night out. He’s waiting to leap in your life and turn it upside down.

Many church goers talk about the irrelevancy of the Old Testament but Jesus rebuked Satan three times by saying, “it is written.” All three quotations were from the book of Deuteronomy. If you spiritual life depended on your knowledge of Deuteronomy, how would you make out? Many church goers only open their Bible’s on Sunday. The remaining six days it just sits gathering dust where it was left after walking in the door from church. Truth be known, “the Bible will either keep you from sin or sin will keep you from the Bible.” You are either in the Word and the Word is conforming you to the image of Christ, or you’re in the world and the world is squeezing you into its mold.

Do you remember as a kid the height growth charts that you marked on the wall?

How is your Christian growth chart?

Does it look like a height growth chart that you started at 25?

Spiritual growth takes commitment and time. It must be a PRIORITY.. You have to want to grow and know how to grow? Spiritual growth will prepare you to defeat Satan. To defeat Satan you must arm yourself with the FULL Armor of God!!

To learn how to study the Bible go to Barnes & Noble and purchase Living By The Book by Howard G. & William D. Hendricks.

“Let your soul delight itself in abundance.” (Isaiah 55:2)

When Satan tried to trap Jesus at the beginning of His ministry, he used the same temptations that he uses on us everyday.

One trap is the lure of material things. Jesus had fasted for forty days, and Satan tried to take advantage of His hunger by urging Him to use His supernatural power to turn stones into bread. But Jesus replied, “Man shall not live on bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.” (Matthew 4:4)

Bread is important, but it isn’t all-important, as Satan was suggesting. Pleasure and recreation have their place, but they must not have first place. Money is necessary, but must serve us; we are not to serve it.

Isaiah said, “Listen carefully to Me…and let your soul delight itself in abundance.(Isaiah 55:2) Yes, delight in abundance–the abundance God gives you, both material and spiritual. Especially delight in the abundance of joy that comes from His presence. Satan will always offer you substitutes. Refuse them!

MY CHALLENGE PRAYER for YOU… Make a commitment to your own spiritual growth…

I hope that you all have a MAGNIFICENT day.. Blessings & much love….D

ALWAYS…..Live YOUR life like it’s your LAST 24!!!

The Numbers On Your Scale Are Not Important

Good Morning my friends,

It’s Friday but SUNDAY’S COMING!!!

Every year people spend billions of dollars on cosmetics, health spas, physical fitness machines, and concoctions claiming to make them live longer, look younger or to lose weight. Age will eventually overtake even the most beautiful or physically fit people in the world and just like everyone else they will die. For Christians, we know that someday we will have perfect bodies that will never age, experience pain or have a disease. Someday our dead bodies will be “raised in glory” (1 Corinthians 15:43), and we will be like Christ in His resurrection body. I can only imagine what that will be like But I do know that the resurrected body of Jesus is the pattern or design for my new body.

“For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, The Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body.” (Philippians 3:20-21)

Most of you don’t know that on this day 11 years ago I had weight-loss surgery (lap band). The morning of my surgery I tipped the scales at 373lbs. Fourteen months after my surgery I hit my lowest weight 203lbs. I maintained between 210-225 until about 5 years ago. That when I developed some minor problems with my band and had to correct with a six week liquid diet. During that six weeks I drank nothing but EAS Protein shakes for each of my five mini meals per day.. The other liquids that I drank were decaffeinated ice tea, water and Gatorade. After six weeks, I went back to my doctor and she thought I was lying about what I consumed because I gained 20lbs however my proof was that the problem with my lap band was corrected. I then chose not to have my band refilled. You see, I hadn’t eat steak, pizza, any kind of bread, and many other things in almost six years. The steak I ate was was amazing but the pizza, biscuits & gravy, chicken fried steak etc..etc was even better.. It was so good that I gained 40lbs in about 10 weeks and that’s when I decided it was time to get my band filled.. My doctor was so mad… But she got over it.. I got my band filled and dropped a quick 15lbs and have not been back since.

I decided that I wanted to do it different. I was going to lose the rest of my weight through exercise. Keri and I started P90x.. It was beyond tough for this fat boy but we loved it.. I dropped 20lbs in six weeks, but unfortunately I caught a cold while traveling with my job and when it was all said and we ended up missing 17 days and never went back to it. We started walking but that never works. We ended up purchasing Insanity and that was even tougher but we loved it even more. After six weeks on Insanity, I was diagnosed with cancer and was told by my doctor to stop immediately. In January 2013 with my cancer “behind” me, we purchased Les Miles Combat because it was less strenuous on my body as requested by my doctor. This one by far was our favorite. We completed the first 30 day block and had decided to start it over because we were able to stay up with and wanted to get maximum results. After a week, I started experiencing some health issues, so I stopped for a week and once my issues subsided we started back up. My issues returned after a week so again we stopped again and I went to the doctor. I ended up having to totally stop because I had to have another surgery. In late June after recovering from my surgery. I decided to heck with the exercise, I would just do it through my diet and a product called Zija. After a month, I was down 15lbs and feeling great. In late July, I felt a couple of lumps in my pelvic area and went to the doctor to have them checked out. My doctor wanted to perform surgery immediately and they ended up removing 5 cancerous masses, part of a vein in my left leg that was compromised by the cancer and most of the lymph nodes and they told me that once I recovered from surgery I was going to have to go through 3 or 4 months of chemo. After going through the chemo, They told me I was going to do 25 treatments of radiation in 30 days. I finished the radiation on Feb 28, 2014. I had noticed that during my radiation I had a lump in my left pelvic area come up again. They did a CT scan and I was told it was scar tissue from all my previous surgeries. The “scar tissue” increased in size so I went to my oncologist and had another CT scan. Once again I was told that it was “scar tissue” but if I was concerned and it would ease my mind to make an appointment to see my cancer doctor. After a month I decided I wanted to ease my mind. I made an appointment and he examined me and told me that since I was scheduled to have a PET Scan in a month to get the scan done and come see him afterwards. I had the scan and went to see him and he informed me that my “scar tissue” was indeed cancer and he wanted to refer me to one of the best doctors in the world for my type of cancer but it meant me traveling 5 hours to MD Anderson in Houston. I took chemo every week from the last week of Sept through the first week in April. Three weeks later I endured a 15 hour surgery that involved my cancer surgeon whom removed a tumor with the diameter of a softball. My vascular surgeon removed most of my femoral nerve because it was compromised by the tumor, she also removed a artery and and two veins that were also compromised and replaced the with one from a cadaver. My third surgeon was a plastic surgeon whom was responsible for filling in the spot where the tumor was located. He took muscle from my abdomen and moved them down to fill in the area. When the surgery was all said and done I had a total of 6 ft of sutures. In July, I found out that I had another tumor and started another round of chemo the first week in August. After 3 treatments and another CT Scan I was told the tumor increase in size and they found yet another near my left groin. I started my 4th round of chemo this past Tuesday.

I’ve told you all this to say this. I’ve been trying to lose the same 45 lbs going on five years. In fact my third round of chemo increased that 45lbs to 75 because of a weekly steroid I was administered. I have lost at least 30lbs on 5 separate occasions. As of today I still would like to lose about 45lbs to be where I would like to be but in all honesty if I never make it I could care less because I will never let the numbers on my scale define me as a person. I’ve learned that weight-loss is difficult but changing what’s on the side is just as tough but much more important.

“Because I live, you also will live.” (John 14:19)

MY CHALLENGE PRAYER for YOU…. Don’t let the numbers on the scale define whom you are but instead let what’s on the inside do it.

I hope that you all have a FANTASTIC day.. Blessings & much love….D

ALWAYS…..Live YOUR life like it’s your LAST 24!!!

Loving with God’s Love

Good Morning my friends

Her letter said, “I can’t live with him, but I can’t live without him either.” She had moved out three times but kept coming back. Her story repeated thousands of times every day but had many different variations. All marriages are different and you can’t over simplify or overlook the uniqueness of every relationship. But what’s the problem? Why can’t spouses seem to get along? We can answer that question by asking another. What is the opposite of love? It’s not hate (although it may take that form). The opposite of love is selfishness. When a husband and wife are concerned only about their own individual desires, the stage is set for conflict.

I honestly could write a book about selfishness in marriage because I lived it for 20 years.  I took and took and took.. I manipulated, schemed and lied to get my way whether it was to hang out with my buddies drinking or coming up with reasons/excuses not to go places I didn’t want to go. I was concerned about what I wanted to do and really not much more. Many couples would’ve been divorced 10 or 15 years before but luckily I married a woman with a lot of patience. She refused to give up on me. I guess although I was selfish when it came to our marriage, she saw that I wasn’t that way with our boys and she thought perhaps one day I would change and become that way with her. I’m not sure what she saw but I’m glad she never gave up.

Today my marriage is different. It all changed one the first weekend in Oct 2011 at a marriage retreat called Encounter Marriage Weekend. It was during a single moment illustrated by Rick & Brenda Laurence that changed me forever. They had swords in their hands standing back to back. They talked how when couples stand back to back they’re able to fight and defeat from both directions. Then they talked about how sometimes one in the marriage might succumb to the battle and that’s when the other one has to fight front and back. It was that moment that brought me to my knees.. I finally saw that Keri had been fighting front and back for 20 years. It was that moment that I said, “NO MORE.” Since then it has been “heart to heart with nothing in between.” Marriage is more than just a ceremony in a church. It is a covenant. Couples should be willing to invest more in their marriage than they do anything else in their lives.

The Bible gives us another way the way of Christ. True love, it says, is self-giving, not self-seeking. True love puts the needs of others first. This is what Christ did when He left Heaven’s glory and came down to Earth for us. Begin a new page in your marriage by asking Christ to become the center of your life and your marriage

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.”(1 Corinthians 13:4-5)

MY CHALLENGE PRAYER for YOU….. Take your marriage to the next level…

I hope that you all have a WONDERFUL day.. Blessings & much love….D

ALWAYS…..Live YOUR life like it’s your LAST 24!!!
