Listening and Hearing There’s a Difference

Good Morning my friends,

Did you hear what I just said or did you listen to what I just said? To the average male those two sentences ask the same question, but it’s not about the question but the meaning.. I’ve learned in my 24 + years of marriage that hearing & listening are two different things.. The difference between hearing & listening is how far you absorb the words that are being spoken. You can hear the trees rustling or a train in the distance but to listen means to absorb what someone else is saying.

Do you listen to God when He speaks to you or do you just hear Him? I know that’s a tough one.. There have been times in my life when I didn’t like what God was saying but I still heard Him.. We are that way with people all too often. We hear them but we aren’t listening. Have you ever been talking to someone and see their eyes glaze over right in the middle of what you’re saying? Or how about when the person you’re talking to interrupts and tries to give their 2 cents or tries to finish your sentence.. I’m so guilty of this with Keri. When we do those things we are sending a message that what I have to say is more important than what you do.. God speaks to you in many different ways… He will reveal things in His Word.. He will speak through other people. He will give you that gentle nudge or tug.. But you have to attentive and be willing to be listening for Him and not just hear..

“For ever, O Lord, thy word is settled in heaven.” (Psalms 119:89)

What does revelation mean? It means that something that has been hidden is now made known. Some people see God as hidden and unknown. Such a view assumes God doesn’t want to be known or even that God is incapable of being known because He is just a vague, impersonal force like gravity. But God has revealed Himself. He is not hidden! He has spoken to us, and if we will listen, we can not only discover what He is like, but we can also come to know Him in a personal way. God has two textbooks. One is the textbook of nature. By looking at the world,we can learn something about its Creator. The other is the textbook of revelation, the Bible. It is more than an ancient record of events; it is God’s Word, given to us by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit to guide our lives. God has spoken–and He still speaks. Are you listening?

My CHALLENGE PRAYER for You… Listen for God to speak or reveal something..

ALWAYS…..Live YOUR life like it’s your LAST 24!!!
