World of Deception

Good Morning my friends,

Jesus is the resurrection and the life; all lasting Life emanates from Him.  You search for life in many wrong ways; chasing after fleeting pleasures, accumulating possessions and wealth, or trying to deny the inevitable effects of aging.  Meanwhile, Jesus freely offers an abundant Life to anyone who turns toward Him.  As you come to Him and take His yoke upon you, He will fill you with His very Life.  That’s how He chooses to live in the world and accomplish His purposes.  It’s how He blesses you with Joy and fills you full of Glory.  The Joy and Glory is His; but He bestows them on you as you live in His Presence and invite Him to live fully in you.  

Jesus said to her,  “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die;” (John 11:25)

I often wonder how I made it so far in life without being focused solely on God.   I constantly chased affirmations and joy from the world.  The closer they seemed to get within my grasp the further they seemed to be away.   I wasted so many years looking for peace, joy & glory that I thought the world could provide me but never receive anything besides turmoil.  That’s what the world does.  It will fill your life with turmoil..  The world will fool you with false hope.  The wrong people will be sent into your life.   Those people will hold you down and will constantly pull you back into your turmoil or theirs.  The world deceives you.  It tells you that your life will be fun filled instead of the boring other life.  It tells you that your life will be full of joy and happiness because you will find it in every moment that you’re living wild & free.  That couldn’t be further from the truth.  The wild & free life will fill you with nothing but despair and emptiness.  It will provide you with a thirst that can never be satisfied, a yearning that can never be filled, a life without direction and a life without rest.  

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” (Matthew 11:28-29)

A Walk in the Park

It’s Friday but SUNDAY’S COMING!!

Good Morning my friends,

Walk down your path of life with Jesus, enjoying His Presence during all your adversity.  He walks before you, as well as alongside you.  He beckons for you to Come! Follow Him.   He is the One that goes ahead of you and opens up the way.   He is the same One who stays close and never let’s go of your hand.  He is not subject to limitations of time nor space.  He is everywhere, at every time and always ceaselessly working on your behalf.  That is why your best efforts are trusting Him and living close to Him..

“Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.”  (Psalm 37:3-4)

When my boys were small Keri & I use to love to go walking with them.  We were living in Watauga and we use to drive over to walk at the Park Glen trails.  Mick was just a baby.  We had a double stroller and he would be in the back laying down napping & Zakk would be in the front.  Zakk always wanted to walk with us but since we were exercising we made him ride in the stroller.   To say it was a chore to exercise with him in the stroller was an understatement because it was gonna be a fight to keep him sitting down.  He would stand up, turn around, pester Mick and get him to crying just because he thought he might have a chance to get out.  One day he finally figured out how to stop the stroller.  Keri is walking along and all of a sudden he puts his foot on the stroller’s front wheel and they come to a screeching halt and it nearly flips.  He did this for several days & several times during our walk..  Keri & I talked it over and decided that we would get a kid backpack.  She would still push the stroller and I would wear the backpack with Zakk.  It was a novel idea.  The first day wasn’t bad other than the fact that I was lumping an extra 30-40lbs, but EVERY day after that was a fight..  Hands in the face, pulling my hair, kicking me in the back…etc.etc..

Our walk in life is a lot like our walk with our kids.  We have someone that is willing to push us in the stroller, carry us in a backpack but instead we try to get out and walk ourselves.  We want to blaze our own path.  God knows the direction we need to go just like Keri & I did with Zakk, but he wanted to do it his was way.  

“Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.” (Hebrews 7:25)

Wrong Affirmation

Good Morning my friends,


Stop judging and evaluating yourself..  It isn’t your role.  Above all, stop comparing yourself with other people.  This produces feelings of pride or inferiority and often a mixture of both.  God leads each of His children along a path that is uniquely tailor made for them, so comparing is not only wrong, it is meaningless.  Don’t look for affirmation from your own evaluations or from other people.  The only source of real affirmation is God’s unconditional Love.  Many believers perceive God as an unappeasable Judge, angrily searching out their faults and failures.  Nothing could be farther from the truth!  Jesus died for your sins, so that He might clothe you in His garments of salvation.  This is how God see’s you: radiant in Jesus’ robe of righteousness.  When He disciplines you, it is never in anger or disgust; it’s to prepare you for a face to Face fellowship with Him throughout all eternity.  Immerse yourself in His loving Presence. Be receptive to His affirmation, which flows continually from the throne of grace.

“Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.” (Luke 6:37)

Tool guitarist Adam Jones once stated, “I’m my own worst critic and I think everyone in the band is a perfectionist.”  I can indeed relate to this quote.  I have spoke often about my quest for perfection quite often.  I have a drive to be the best at everything I put my mind on doing…  Overachiever??  Perhaps…  I use to try to be the man that all women wish they had married, the dad that all kids wanted, the son that every parent wish they had, the brother all siblings needed, the best uncle, the best friend, the best employee, the best boss, the best neighbor, the best sales rep, the best …..the best…. the best…  I didn’t necessarily compare myself to others but I set a standard to judge and evaluate myself that I could never reach..    I look back now and understand that I was looking for affirmation from the world.   I know now that I don’t need affirmation from the world because I have the greatest affirmation that any man could ever want or need by my heavenly Father.  I have a God that gave His son for me.  I have a Savior that died for me..  If that already isn’t enough.. I have a wife that loves me more than I could ever deserve.  I have two boys that cherish me..  I have a mom, dad, sister, brother-in-law, nephew, & nieces that think I’m the bomb-dig-giddy and that is more than enough.  I still strive to be the best but not for affirmation..  

“I delight greatly in The Lord; my soul rejoices in my God. For he has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of his righteousness, as a bridegroom adorns his head like a priest, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.”  (Isaiah 61-10)

My CHALLENGE PRAYER for YOU….     Don’t compare yourself to others.. God gave His Son for you.

Life of Gratitude

Good Morning my friends,

Be still in the light of God’s Presence, while He communicate Love to you. There is no force in the universe as powerful as His Love. We’re all aware of our limitations in this world and what it has to offer but there’s no limit to God’s Love; it fills all space, time and eternity. We look at life through a dark glass but someday we will be face to face with Him. You will then be able to experience fully how wide & long and high & deep His Love is for you. If you were to experience that now, you would be overwhelmed to the point of feeling crushed. But you have eternity ahead of you where you are absolutely guaranteed to enjoy His Presence in unrestricted ecstasy. For now just the knowledge of His Loving Presence is sufficient to carry you through each day.

“For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.” (1 Corinthians 13:12)


My sister once posted…“If people would concentrate on finding whatever is good in every situation, they would discover that their life will suddenly be filled with gratitude which is a feeling that nurtures the soul.” I think our society would be a much better place if people lived like this. Instead I see society concentrating on negative things or bad experiences.. Monday, I wrote about lending a friend some money to pay their flower bill.. After being burned I could’ve easily said that I’m never going to be generous to anyone again.. Instead I refuse to allow a bad experience to keep me from being generous.

I’ve seen a lot “Christians” be negative towards “friends” after they experienced something bad. I watched as they turned their back them when they’re down & out. I don’t care what your life experiences have been, if you’re a Christian and trying to live your life like Christ, you should never concentrate on the negative. Instead you should be uplifting and supporting by through love.. That’s how Christ lived.

God wants us to live with dependence upon Him. He wants to pour His love upon our life. He wants you to see the glory that He can fill your life with everyday. As a Christian when you look at your life should be able to recognize the love & blessings that God is bestowing on your life by the way you live your life..

“I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.” (Ephesians 3:16-19)

Self-Pity

Good Morning my friends,

Guard yourself against the bottomless pit of self pity. When you are weary and unwell, this demonic trap is the greatest danger you will face. Don’t go near the edge of the pit. It’s edges crumble easily, and before you know it, you will be on your way down. It’s a lot harder to get out if the pit than to keep a safe distance from it. You can protect yourself with several ways from self pity. When you’re occupied with praising and thanking God, it’s impossible to feel sorry for yourself. The closer you live to God, the more distance there will be between you and the pit. Live in the Light of His Presence by fixing your eyes on Him and you will be able to run a race of endurance without stumbling or falling.

“Blessed are those who have learned to acclaim you, who walk in the light of your presence, Lord. They rejoice in your name all day long; they celebrate your righteousness.” (Psalm 89:15-16)


I’ve never been one to have self pity.. I’m just not one to feel sorry for myself or my circumstances.. I’ve always been one that has tried to play with the cards that I’ve been dealt or made for myself.. I’ve tried to accept the responsibilities for my mistakes, my actions and then I grab my boot straps, pull up my big boy underwear and hang-on for the ride ahead. Please don’t take what I’m saying wrong here. I have not always immediately accepted responsibility for my actions & mistakes. There have been times in my life when I’ve been like every other person in this world and blamed someone else for my stupidity.. I like every other sorry dog out there have lied, denied and blamed everyone else but myself for my actions.

Have you ever been around the person that is full of self-pity? Their whole world is against them.. It’s always about the bad things going on in their life and never the good things.. I don’t care how bad someone has it in life there can always be positive found. I do my best to stay away from doom & gloomers. I have a family member that does nothing but constantly complain about how bad their life is and how bad they have it. There have been times that I wanted to say, but you have a roof over your ungrateful head and food on your table every night so be thankful for those things. I want to tell them that the things they complain about are the result of their poor decisions. I’m not one to give self pity for those that seek it, however I will give you the shirt off my back and the shoes off my feet in freezing weather if I feel moved to do so.. I love to give but don’t take advantage of me…

A few years ago, I loaned a long time “friend” whom was a customer $1900 to pay for their flower bill. Now 5 years later I have yet to see $.01 but yet they have been on numerous vacations, go out to eat constantly, buy their kids frivolous things etc…etc.. When I was diagnosed with cancer in Aug 2012, they sent me a private message saying how they knew I could beat it etc etc and then had the nerve to say they couldn’t believe that I let money ruin a friendship.. I told them I appreciate the kind words and they were right that with Gods grace I was gonna beat cancer but as a friend they should’ve made sure the money got paid back.. I told them if the rolls were reversed I would’ve made sure that I paid them back if it meant me not eating nothing but peanut butter sandwiches for 6 months because that’s the type of person I am. I also said if I were in that situation again that I would do the same thing again because that what friends do.. I never heard another word.. Genuine friends are hard to come by..

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” (Hebrews 12:1-2)

Independent or Dependent

Good Morning my friends,

Tomorrow both my mom & dad celebrate their birthday. My dad will be 71 and my mom will be 68. Thank you both for allowing me to be an individual when I was growing up and pushing me to become the best at whatever I was attempting. Happy Birthday!! I love you both so much…

Your awareness of your constant need for God is your greatest strength. Your neediness if properly handled can be a link to God’s Presence. You must continually guard yourself against the pitfalls of self pity, self-preoccupation and quitting/giving up. Your inadequacy presents you with two choices. Either deep dependence on God or despair. You can either fill the emptiness inside with your problems or with God’s Presence. Make Him central in your consciousness by praying continually: simple, short prayers flowing out of the present moment. Use His Name liberally, to remind you of His constant Presence. Keep asking and you will receive, and your happiness will be full and complete.

Growing up I was always independent. As a little boy, I wanted and tried to explore on my own and not be confined or held back. When I got older and decided it was time to move out, I vowed to never HAVE to move back home. I did this not because it was bad but because I wanted to prove to the world of my independence… For the record, I never had to go back.

My oldest son Zakk moved out almost two years ago to attend college at Texas A & M. Keri & I weren’t excited or ready at all for him to move out but we were excited for the opportunity that it was going to present for him. We had prayed throughout his teenage years that he was prepared for the road ahead. Zakk was even more independent than me when growing up. He was always much more mature than I was as well which made him seem even older. This past Monday, he celebrated his 20th birthday. When I think back about the times that we shared, I can’t help but wonder if those days are over. Yes, he still depends on us to support him financially, he still has a room to come home to when he’s able to come home but those weekend visits are getting less and less. Mick, my youngest will be leaving for college in a little over a year and I’m afraid that once that happens the days of all of us just sitting around the house chillin’ will come to an end. The thought of my boys no longer needing me troubles my heart. It only seems like it was yesterday when they were born and were so dependent on us.

The dependence that we love from our kids is the same that God wants from us as adults. God wants us to be childlike in our faith. By childlike He means like when we were most dependent upon our parents, not like as a teenagers when we sought to establish our own identity. I’m learning to be more & more dependent upon God, especially during times like becoming an empty-nester.

“Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete.” (John 16:24)

Choices

It’s FRIDAY but SUNDAY’s COMING!!

Good Morning my friends,

Trust and thankfulness will get you safely through this day. Trust protects you from worrying and obsessing. Thankfulness keeps you from criticizing and complaining about those “sister sins” that easily entangle you. Keeping your eyes on Jesus is the same thing as trusting Him. It is a free choice, one that you must make thousands of times a day. The more you choose to trust Him, the easier it becomes. Your thought patterns of trust become etched into your brain. Learn to control the troubles of your mind, so that Jesus can be the center of your thoughts. Thus you focus on Him, entrusting your concerns into His care..

Life really just boils down to the choices we make. We are faced with nothing but choices everyday. We all have the choice where we choose to go to spend our time in thought & in relaxation. It’s our choice whether we give into temptation or we stay strong in our faith. It is our choice whether we allow people to influence us or control us. Yes, we are ALL born into sin but it’s our choice whether we choose to commit the sin or not. It’s our choice to give into the flesh & worldly desires. It’s our choice whether we serve man or we take up the cross and serve our Savior.

Today you have a choice to either trust God and stop worrying & obsessing about things that are beyond your control or you can continue down the path that you’ve been walking on. The problem we have in our society today is that instead of us taking action, we instead like to give lip service. We like to talk about what we’re going to do.. I see people all the time talking about God but their actions speak louder than their words. There are preachers around this country that are choosing to be popular by turning their back on The Scriptures and preaching a watered down message instead of calling sin a sin.. Just yesterday, I read that “Christian” Pastor Rob Bell Suggests Ignoring the Bible to Help The Church ‘Stay Relevant..

If there ever was a time for preachers and Christians to be talking about the rev elegance of the Bible it is 2015… Today YOU have a choice.. Tomorrow YOU have a choice. What will your choice be? I choose to TRUST God and hold on to His Sovereign Word..

“So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.” (Colossians 2:6-7)
