Take A Break from Life

Good Morning my friends

“For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.” (1 Corinthians 13:12)

It never hurts to get away from the world and unwind. A chance to unplug from your daily responsibilities and relax. This week is that opportunity for me. My whole family & I are headed for the beach so we can unplug. This is a much needed vacation for me. I haven’t had one in two years. Last year I had to use my vacation time when I had cancer surgery & during my chemo treatments.
I’m unplugging from social media and from my responsibilities as well as the hustle & bustle of life. I’m going to get still in the Light of God’s Presence. I’m going to be quiet and listen while He communicates His Love to me. I know that there’s no force in the universe as powerful as God’s Love. I have limitations but there’s no limit to God’s Love; it fills all of time, space, and eternity. In this world I see darkness daily, but someday I will be face to Face with Him. I will be able to experience fully how wide, long, high and deep His Love is for me.
Getting away and experiencing His Presence in small snippets is all we can do while we are here on earth because if we experienced it now, we would be overwhelmed to the point of feeling crushed. I have an eternity ahead of me that is absolutely guaranteed. I will enjoy God’s Presence in unrestricted ecstasy. But for now, the knowledge of His Loving Presence will be sufficient enough to carry me through each day.

“I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.” (Ephesians 3:16-19)

Pity Party’s are your Choice

Good Morning my friends

Guard yourself against the bottomless pit of self pity. When you’re weary and unwell, this demonic trap is the greatest danger you’ll face. Stay away from the edge of the pit because the edges crumble easily and before you know it you will fall in. It’s much harder to get out of the pit than to keep a safe distance from it. That’s why you should be on guard. There are many ways to protect yourself from self pity. When you occupy yourself with praise and thanking God, it’s impossible to feel sorry for yourself. The closer you live to God, the more distance there is between you and the pit. Live in the Light of God’s Presence by fixing your eyes on Him. This will allow you to run the race of life with endurance without stumbling or falling.
I’ve never been one to have my own pity party.. I’m just not one to feel sorry for myself.. There have been times in my life when I was like most other men and blamed someone else for my stupidity.. I also like every other sorry male dog lied and denied and refused to take responsibility for my choices while blaming others. Yes, I would eventually come to my senses and accept responsibility for my mistakes and my actions. I then grabbed my boot straps, pull up my big boy underwear and went along for the bumpy ride.
Have you ever been around a person that is just full of self pity? Their world is constantly against them.. There’s always nothing but bad things going on in their life.. They never accept that’s it’s the result from their bad choices.. I don’t care how bad someone has it in life, there can always be positive found. I try to stay away from doom & gloomers. I know people that do nothing but constantly complain about how bad their life is going. Sometimes I just want to yell but you have a roof over your ungrateful head and food on your table every night so be thankful for those things. Besides the things you complain about are the result of your poor decisions.

“Blessed are those who have learned to acclaim you, who walk in the light of your presence, Lord . They rejoice in your name all day long; they celebrate your righteousness.” (Psalm 89:15-16)

I don’t have much pity for those that seek it. If I feel there’s sincerity then I’ll give someone the shirt off my back & the shoes off my feet in freezing weather. I love to give but don’t use me or take me for granted. A few years ago I loaned a long time “friend” whom was also a customer $1900 to pay for their flower bill. Now almost 4 years later I’ve yet to see a penny but yet they have been on vacation every year and go out to eat constantly. They buy their kids frivolous things etc…etc.. Two years ago when they heard I had cancer they sent me a private message saying how they knew I could beat it etc etc and then had the nerve to say they couldn’t believe that I let money ruin our friendship.. I told them I appreciate the kind words and they were right that with God’s Grace I was gonna beat cancer but as a friend they should’ve made sure the money was paid back.. I told them if the rolls were reversed I would’ve made sure that I paid them back if it meant me eating nothing but peanut butter sandwiches for 3 months because that’s the type of person I am. I also said if I were in that situation again that I would do the same thing again because that’s what true friends do… I never heard another word.. A true genuine friend is hard to come by..

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” (Hebrews 12:1-2)

Dependence Should Never End

It’s Friday but SUNDAY’S COMING

Good Morning my friends,

Are you dependent or independent? I’ve always been independent. In fact, when I moved out of my parents house for the first time, I vowed to never HAVE to move back. I did this not because it was bad there but because I wanted to prove to the world and myself of my independence… For the record, I never HAD to go back.
My oldest son Zakk moves in his first apartment in August down in College Station. Keri & I are excited for him on one hand but on the other we’ve been dreading this moment. We pray daily that when the time has come that both Zakk & Mick are prepared for the road. You see when raising kids parent can either prepare their kid for the road or prepare the road for the kid. Our societies appears to have created a generation of the latter.. The latter brings nothing but irresponsibility and non-ownership.
Zakk has been Mr. Independent since before he started Pre-K. In many ways he’s much more mature & independent than I was at this same point in our lives however in less significant ways he’s still seems to be our little boy. As I think back about the times that we shared together I can’t help but wonder if those days are coming to a close. Yes, I know he will still depend on us to support him financially until he finishes school but I’m afraid that the days of us just sitting around this house chillin are coming to an end. The thought of my independent son no longer needing me or his mom makes me proud but hurts my heart. It seems like only yesterday when he was coming into this world and was completely dependent on us. Where has the time gone??

“Pray continually,” (1 Thessalonians 5:17)

I’m learning that I need God in EVERY moment of my life. When I became aware that I was in constant need for God, it became my greatest strength. When I finally realized this neediness, it became my direct link to His Presence. There are pitfalls that I must guard myself against such as self pity, self-preoccupation & giving up. My inadequacy presents me with but two options. I can either have deep dependence upon God or I can fall into despair. The emptiness that I feel at times on the inside can either be filled with problems or with God’s Presence. It’s my decision. I can elect to make God the center of my consciousness by praying continually. Short simple prayers calling out for His Presence in stills my dependence upon Him. As long as I’m willing to continue to ask, God will make sure that I will receive, so that my happiness may be full and complete.
As parents the dependence that we seek from our kids is the same that God seeks from us as adults. God wants us to be childlike in our faith. Which means that of a small child like when they’re most dependent upon their parents, not as a teenager or young adult when they are seeking to establish their own identity or themselves in the world. It’s during times like these that I’ve learned to be even more dependent upon God. It’s times like these that I’ve learn that I need Him more than ever..

“Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete.” (John 16:24)

Today you have a Choice..

Good Morning my friends,

Have you noticed that life boils down to the choices. It’s our decision where we spend time in thought & relaxation. It’s our choice whether we allow temptation to come into our life. It’s our decision whether we let the wrong people influence us. It’s our choice to give into the flesh & worldly desires. It’s our choice whether we serve man or we take up the cross and serve our Savior. Yes, we are ALL born into sin but it’s our choice whether we choose to commit the sin or not. Each requires us to make the conscience decision. You either choose to walk with Jesus and His ways or turn your back on Him.. You can’t serve both the world & God.

“But my eyes are fixed on you, Sovereign Lord ; in you I take refuge—do not give me over to death.” (Psalm 141:8)

My friends today you have a choice to make. You either trust God and stop worrying & obsessing about things that are beyond your control or you can continue to go down that same path that you’ve been walking on. The problem we have in our society today is that instead of us taking action we instead like to give lip service. I see people all the time talking about serving God but their actions speak louder than their words. There are preachers around this country that choose to be popular by turning their back on God’s Word and preaching a watered down message of nothing but prosperity rather than calling sin a sin. They refuse to talk about sin, repentance, hell & satan.. If there has ever been a time for preachers and Christians to stand up and start talking about Jesus returning and encouraging sinners to repent it’s 2014…

Today YOU have a choice because tomorrow might not be an option.

What will your choice be?

I choose to TRUST God and hold on to His Sovereign Word..

“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:7)

Trust and thankfulness will ALWAYS guide you safely through each day. Trust protects you from worrying and obsessing about life and its obstacles. Thankfulness keeps you from criticizing and complaining which are the “sister sins” that so easily entangle you. Keeping your eyes fixed upon God is the same thing as trusting Him. It is a free choice that you must make thousands of times each day. The more you choose to trust God, the easier it becomes. Thought patterns of trust become etched into your brain which allow you to place your troubles out of your mind, so that He can be the center of your thoughts. Thus you’re able to focus on God, entrusting your concerns into His care..

“So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.” (Colossians 2:6-7)

Peace Be With You

Good Morning my friends,

Peace be with you has been God’s watchword for those who yearn for Him ever since Jesus’ resurrection. When you sit quietly and seek God’s loving Presence, His Peace will settle over you gently. Jesus died a criminal’s death in order to provide you with His radiant Peace. His Peace is a rare treasure that dazzles in delicate beauty but yet it’s strong enough to withstand the world and everything in it. His Peace should be received abundantly and thankfully. We should chose to always wear His Peace with royal dignity. By doing this it will keep your heart and mind close to Him.

”On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” (John 20:19, 21)

My Pastor has always told us that praise & worship prepares us to receive God’s Word. I’m a firm believer of this and I’m glad that he reminds us of this on a regular basis. Sunday our music spoke to me so much. I told Keri after the service that I wished I could’ve started writing immediately. Yesterday I wrote about the short video that touched my heart and it reminded me of the Dave Crowder song He Loves Us. Our worship leader Brady Gray has an amazing voice. The worship team sang a song by Hillsong that also made me think of how the little girl greeted her dad in the video. Forever Reign is a beautiful song. The chorus goes like this;

Oh, I’m running to Your arms,
I’m running to Your arms.
The riches of Your love,
will always be enough
Nothing compares to Your embrace
Light of the wild forever reign

When I heard this song, I thought about the video and it reminded me that God wants us to have childlike faith. He wants us to be like the little girl that runs into her daddy’s arms. You should never be ashamed, embarrassed or afraid to praise God and the Peace that He brings you during worship. When your in church and you hear a song that makes you feel joyful all over raise your hands and praise Him.. Who cares what the stick in the mud behind you thinks. Your there for you not them.

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” (John 14:27)

He Loves Us

Good Morning,

Last weekend I saw a short video of a nice looking young guy going on a first date. The video begins with him talking to what appears to be his buddy while tying his tie in the bathroom. He speaks about how nervous he is and what he has planned for his first date. He finishes getting dressed and goes to leave only to turn around and go back to the door where he kneels down and knocks on the door. The door opens and a precious little girl whom is all smiles opens the door and leaps into her daddy’s arms and with the sweetest little voice ask if he’s ready for their date. What a beautiful moment!! It was during that scene that I had to fight back tears.. The video continues with them eating a sandwich and then shows them playing in the backyard and then walking and holding hands. I prayed that God would bless me with boys. I didn’t want girls because the thought of my little girl driving off with some disrespectful snot nose punk with only one thing on his mind would’ve not went well with me. I knew that I could raise my boys not to be that way towards girls but their was no way that I was guaranteed the other. As I watched that video a couple of times I thought about life and how it could be applied to my life.

“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you. “(Psalm 32:8)

On Sunday our worship leader sang one of my favorite songs which is by Dave Crowder. I’m sure you’ve heard “How He Loves”. The lyrics from the song speak volumes to me as a father. They remind me that I have a Father in Heaven whom loves me deeply. He loves me despite my short comings and mistakes.

The video touched my heart like the lyrics to this song. Every morning when we wake up God knocks on our door for a date. It’s up to us to jump joyfully in His Arms. He wants us to approach Him with the same excitement as the little girl. God wants us to trust Him enough to make it a priority to go on a date with Him, this in turn will push back the hustle & bustle that demands huge portions of your day. We should never feel guilty about pushing back menial life task to do something that is so pleasing to God whom is the King of the universe. God is omnipotent. He can and will bend time and events in your favor so that you feel accomplished. You will discover that you can accomplish more in less time, after you have given yourself to Him. When you align yourself with His ways and His perspective, He will bless you with insight to sort out the important things in life. Don’t fall into the trap of being constantly on the go. Many, many things people do in God’s Name has no value in Heaven. To avoid doing meaningless tasks, stay in continual communication with Him. He will instruct you in the way you should go and counsel you with a Loving eye upon your life.

“Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.” (Luke 10:41-42)

Change is not just Coins in your Pocket

Good Morning my friends

Change is not ever easy. It’s very seldom embraced. Most people would rather remain comfortable and set in their ways. In a perfect world this wouldn’t be a problem however in order to grow as a individual you must be willing to accept the fact that you NEED to change. One of the things I’ve said ever since HS ( jokingly might I add) is, “the first thing you got to do is admit you’ve got a problem.”

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” (2 Corinthians 5:17)

For many years there were things in my life that I knew I needed to change but instead I turned a blind eye to those much needed changes. I like everyone else made excuses why I shouldn’t change my ways. I used every excuse in the book not to change.. My most favorite!! It’s part of my personality.. That was like saying, it’s God’s fault THAT I CHOOSE to sin daily.. Excuses seem to have a way of confining you. They limit your potential. If I had only realized this early in life then perhaps I would’ve learned to eliminate the excuses and replace them with action. Action is the forerunner of change. You can’t have change without action. Change will always lead to some type of growth. You have to be willing to make the choice to change. It’s not easy, most of the time it will be an unpopular choice in “societies” eyes. It might mean that you have to give up things in your life that have been a fixture for a long time. Some of those things could include family members & friends. But eliminating the “clutter” (bad habits & bad influences) can be very rewarding. Once you learn to accept change, then you must start surrounding yourself with like minded people.. The Bible tells us in 2 Corinthians 6:14-18

, “Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? What harmony is there between Christ and Belial ? Or what does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people.” Therefore, “Come out from them and be separate, says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you.” And, “I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.”

Growth is an uphill climb that never ends. It is something that has to be pursued daily. It starts with a relationship with God.. Your relationship with God is meant to be vibrant and challenging. As you relinquish control of more and more areas of your life to God you will learn not to fear change. You will see that He is making you a new creation by removing the old things and blessing you with new. When you cling to your old ways and same old things, you resist God’s work within you. God wants you to embrace all that He is doing in your life. He want you to find your security in Him and nothing else.. It is easy to find security within the boundaries that you build around your life. Although each day contains only twenty four hours, you will encounter a unique set of circumstances in each day. Don’t try to force fit today into yesterday’s mold. Instead, ask God to open your eyes, so that you can find all He has prepared for you in this precious day of Life.

“The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.’ Now I have told you.” (Matthew 28:5-7)
