The Up & Downs of Life are Beautiful..

It’s Friday but SUNDAY’S COMING!!!

Good Morning my friends,

Life can be full of ups & downs.. The ups are by far the greatest views but the downs can have just as much splendor if you take the time to look for it.

The ups & downs of life can be so frustrating and disappointing. When I decided to go back to school in the late Spring early Summer of 2012, I called to get my transcripts sent from the University of Maryland University College so that I could perhaps get started in the Fall. It was during that phone call to UMUC to get my transcripts that I was informed that they wouldn’t release my transcripts because I owed them $3000 from when I withdrew back in the Fall 2004. I explained that I didn’t owe them the money because I had received student loans that semester and the loans were added to my principle balance. I explained that I had sent all the documentation proving this back in 2005 and never heard another word about it… Before I got off the phone I came to the conclusion that no matter what I said, they were in complete control and I either had to pay or not get my transcripts and not go back to school.. The ball was in their court… I was frustrated that I wasn’t going to be able to start back to school until the balance was cleared.. My only option was to pay the $3000. I was disappointed but thought perhaps God knew something that I didn’t and the timing just wasn’t right. God told me to look up at the beautiful mountain that I was climbing and take in the view from where I stood because He was in control.
God will always lead you along the high road. Your path will not be straight & flat and there might be descents and ascents. There could also be a few curves & turns as well.. Your path in the distance might be covered with snow but don’t allow the frustration or disappointment to stop you, instead stop and take in the glistening peaks from the brilliant sunlight. We long to reach the peaks in life as quick as possible without taking in the beauty that surrounds our journey to the top. We should never take shortcuts to get to the top because there could possibly be a blessing or two that we miss by taking our shortcut. Our assignment is to follow God, allow Him to direct our path. It’s ok to let the heights beckon us onward, but we should always stay close and focused on Him… Learn to trust Him when things go “wrong.” Disruptions, distractions, frustrations & obstacles from your routine should highlight your dependence on Him. Trusting & the acceptance of trials brings blessings that far outweigh all of those things. Walk hand in hand with God through each day. He has lovingly planned every inch of the way. Trust does not falter when the path becomes rocky and steep. Breathe deep draughts of His Presence, and hold tightly to His hand. Together ya’ll will make it!

“For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.” (2 Corinthians 4:17)

Little did I know that 8-10 weeks later I would be diagnosed with cancer. The $3000 seemed rather insignificant when the cancer came about but I still knew that I needed to just look around and take in the beautiful scenery that surrounded me because God was in control. My climb to the peak is a journey.. Almost two years later, I’ve been cancer free for almost 7 months. I endured 8 surgeries, 3 months of chemo & 25 treatments of radiation.
The $3000 was paid and I’ve completed three semester (25hrs) with all A’s. I guess you could say that my climb has been filled with a few disruptions, distractions, frustrations, obstacles, a few curves & turns and even some ups & downs but my journey has been beautiful. I stop daily and sometimes multiple times a day just to take in the grandeur. I have learned that although my journey is going to be filled with all of those things that will try to derail me but God is in control and I will use those things to stop, take a break, catch my breath and take in a different view. It’s the opportunity to observe something beautiful while gaining a little wisdom as I climb..

“The Sovereign Lord is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to tread on the heights. For the director of music. On my stringed instruments.” (Habakkuk 3:19)

My CHALLENGE prayer for you… During the downs of life take the time to look for the splendor. There’s Glory to be found in those places…

I hope you all have a FABULOUS day… Blessings & much love….D

Live your life like it’s your LAST 24!!

TGIT…..Thank God It’s Today….

Good Thursday Morning my friends,

“This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.” (Psalm 118:24)

My good friend Barry Gottlieb coined the term, TGIT…. I love that!!! Rejoice in today and refuse to worry about tomorrow. Everyday your goal should be to search for EVERYTHING that God has prepared for you. To look for all your abundant blessings while accepting each difficulty as they come at you. God can & will weave miracles into your mundane day if you remain focused on Him. Seek Him with all your needs, knowing that His glorious riches are more than enough to fill your day. Stay in continual communication with Him through prayer and supplication so that you can rise above your circumstances even if you’re in the midst of difficulties. Present your requests to Him with a thankful heart and His Peace, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your mind and heart.
When I look back and think about all my days & years of living in the flesh & “sowing my wild oats.” I’m am so thankful that God never gave up on me. That He kept giving me chance after chance. I thought when I was doing those things that I was doing what life was about.. I thought I was “living life to the fullest” but instead I was living a life where my destiny was hell. My life was empty. My heart and soul couldn’t be filled. I had a thirst that couldn’t be quenched.

“And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.”(Philippians 4:19)

Today, I can tell you that my heart & soul has been filled and all my thirst have been quenched. Quenched by the blood stained banner of Jesus Christ.

Jesus tells us in Matthew 5:6, “Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.”
In John 4:13-14 Jesus tells the woman at the well, ” Whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.”

I may no longer “sow my wild oats” or “live life to the fullest” thru the worlds eyes but I’ve never been more full of life and the seed is how Jesus Christ can CHANGE your life. Planting those seeds will reap a harvest that Jesus will say to me, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant” (Matthew 25:21).
My friends it’s time that we stop living in the moment because our time is drawing near.

The Apostle Paul wrote in 2 Timothy 3:1-7, “But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people. They are the kind who worm their way into homes and gain control over gullible women, who are loaded down with sins and are swayed by all kinds of evil desires, always learning but never able to come to a knowledge of the truth.”

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”(Philippians 4:6)

My CHALLENGE prayer for you…. Ask Jesus Christ to fill your emptiness & quench your thirst and be thankful that He didn’t give up on you…

I hope you all have a TREMENDOUS day… Blessings & much love….D

Live your life like it’s your LAST 24!!

Anticipation is Futile

Good Morning my friends,

Call upon Jesus and rest in His never ending love and peace. Although your day might be filled with difficulties and you attempt to think your way through your trials to anticipate what is ahead of you, do not forget that God is with you—now and always. Rehearsing your troubles results is like experiencing them many times over. Your attempt to brisk through them when they actually occur is futile. Do not multiply your suffering in this way! Instead call upon Him and the relax in His Peace. God will strengthen you and prepare you for your day.. Allow Him to transform your fear into confident trust.
Almost every night when Keri & I go to bed she will either rest her head on my arm near my shoulder or we will face one another holding hands. Sometimes we lay facing the same way and the one in the back drapes their arms around the other but every night in some form or fashion we go to sleep holding one another.. There’s something special about holding her. It relaxes me which in turn allows me to go to asleep more quickly. I must admit that in the past there were a lot of nights where I was guilty of staying up a little while longer watching tv, checking email, playing a game on my iPad or playing on Facebook. On those nights I don’t fall asleep near as quick. I usually toss and turn trying to get comfortable and get relaxed. I still put my arm around her but it’s different than when we go to bed together & she’s laying her head on my shoulder. It’s just not as relaxing.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30)

To get relaxed on those nights when Keri goes to bed before me, I turn to God and start to pray… Turning to God allows me to relax my mind from the pressures of the world and focus on Him. Peace overcomes my mind and I’m usually able to fall asleep within minutes.. My days can be somewhat difficult, filled with problems and unforeseen roadblocks & turmoil but no matter how much I try to prepare for them I can never be prepared enough. I like to start my day in prayer, thanking Him for the opportunity to bring Him praise & honor. I ask in advance for His help during the difficult times and then thank Him immediately for rescuing me during them.. Knowing that all I have to do is call upon His name brings me peace & confidence. Trusting Him allows me to know that not matter what lies ahead of me or is trying to block my path it will be behind me in no time.

“No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:5, 9)

My CHALLENGE prayer for you. Call upon His name for help before you try to plan your day..

I hope you all have a WONDERFUL day… Blessings & much love….D

Exquisite & Simple is a Great Combination

Good Morning my friends,

God’s Face is always shining upon you. His Light shines Peace that transcends all understanding. Although you’re surrounded by a sea of problems, you’re face to Face with God and your Peace. If you focus on Him, you will be safe. If you gaze too long at the myriad of problems that surround you then you will surely sink under the weight of those burdens. When you start to sink, simply call out “Help me, Jesus!” and He will lift you up. The closer you live to Him, the safer you are. The situations that surround you are daunting and treacherous. You can see them as if they’re tidal waves in the the distance. Fix your eyes on Him, the One who never changes and by the time those waves reach you, they will have shrunk to proportions of His design. He is always beside you, helping you face today’s waves. The future is a phantom, seeking to spook you. Laugh at the future! Stay close to Him.

“And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:7)

This week my family & I drove down to Corpus for my nieces wedding. Most of us stopped and ate breakfast together on Saturday morning at the world famous Blue Bonnet Cafe. It was amazing. After eating we jumped in our vehicles and made the remaining trek down to Corpus. Later that evening after the wedding rehearsal we attended the rehearsal dinner which was at the Republic of Texas Bar & Grill on the 20th floor of the Omni Hotel. To have bar & grill in its name is a bit misleading. When I hear bar & grill I think of a place like Chilis and this was leaps & bounds past Chilis (not that Chilis is bad) but this place was exquisite upscale dining. I couldn’t help but smile because my oldest son Zakk enjoyed every aspect of the dining experience where on the other hand my youngest Big Mick was not a big fan. It’s amazing how two boys raised in the same house can have such different taste. Zakk is the steak & lobster kind of guy where as Big Mick is a chicken fried steak & french fry guy. Big Mick tells us from time to time that he’s just a simple boy but Keri & I both tell Zakk that he better become an anesthesiologist so he can afford his taste in life. Exquisite and simple is a combination that I love..
We attended the beautiful beach wedding on Sunday evening and then it was off to the reception which was held at The Courtyard at Gaslight Square. What an amazing venue. It was perfect.

“But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” (Matthew 14:30)

As I sat and thought about the previous two nights I couldn’t help but think about one of these days my boys might be doing this. Don’t get me wrong, I’m in NO HURRY for my boys to be getting married. In fact, I’m beyond happy that neither has never had a girl friend. There’s plenty of time for girls later.. I’m not certain why teenagers want to waste the best years of their lives being tied down. So far my boys have listened to my advice. Keri & I pray often for God to be preparing the right girl for both of our boys and when His time is right for Him to allow their paths to cross.. I believe my niece landed her a great guy. I know that he has placed a beautiful smile on an already beautiful person. If I could give the two newlyweds just one piece of advice that would make sure that they have a long and fruitful marriage, it would be to put & keep God at the center and they will never go wrong. There will be ups & downs but as long as God is in the center it will never be more than they can endure. The times that my marriage as struggled the most was when I was the furthest away..

“Fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” (Hebrews 12:2)

My CHALLENGE prayer for you…. Allow Gods face shine bright on you by focusing on Him…

I hope you all have a TREMENDOUS day… Blessings & much love….D

A Humbling Toe Stomping Makes Me Smile Now

It’s Friday but SUNDAY’S COMING

Trust God by relinquishing control of your life into His hands. Let go and recognize that He is God. We live in the world that He made and controls. The role that we play in the world is in response to the litany of His Love. He searches for His children that are receptive to Him. It is our duty to guard the gifts that He I plants in your heart. We are to nurture them with the Light of His Holy Presence. We are to take Our request to Him in prayer, lay our problems & concerns at His feet. We are to speak candidly to Him and pour out our hearts seeking His guidance. Then we are to thank Him for the answers that He sets into motion whether they are what we like or not. If your prayer request come to mind again, thank Him for the answers that are on their way. Do continue stating your concern because this you will just add tension to your life. When you thank Him for how He answers your prayers, your mindset becomes more positive. A thankful prayers keeps you focused on His Presence and His Promises.

He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” (Psalm 46:10)

I use to not like it when my toes were stomped on by God. Have you ever been in church and thought to yourself that the preacher must have you house bugged?? Been there.. I use to hate that feeling.. I was always like man I wish so and so would’ve been here so they could’ve heard that message. They needed to hear it. I was never the one that needed to hear it.. Now, I’m able to thank God for giving me an opportunity to grow.. Have you ever been reading Scripture or a devotional and had to say ouch because it stomped on you.

“Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.” (Colossians 4:2)

Yesterday afternoon I was reading a devotional and thought to myself, “this was you!” I use to be the worlds worse about praying for the same thing over & over again as if God was deaf or forgets… Are you guilty of the same thing? I still do it from time to time.. I will have something troubling my heart and go to God in prayer asking for help and then later on that day I’ll say almost the same prayer over and then do it again later that night…. I’ve been so GUILTY of this… I’m so glad that my relationship with God has grown so rapidly over the last two and half years. It seems like I can hardly keep up. I constantly seek His Will and His Guidance in every aspect of my life.. I will be driving down the road and experience some road rage, slip into my old flesh and say something that I immediately regret and then go to Him like a whipped dog. Something will happen at the office and I won’t handle like I should have and will do the same thing. I’ve learned to go to Him immediately. I’ve learned to let things go and give it all to Him and move on. When I come to a crossroad I do my best to choose the road that will give Him the most honor & glory. The road that will lead me to the cross. My life has been so blessed over the last 24 months that at times it gets overwhelming… It’s hard to believe because I’m so undeserving.. Keri & I have never been more in love and closer in our marriage.. My boys are such a blessing to my life.. I look at them and think wow what have I done to deserve two spectacular young men. My entire family is being blessed. I have an amazing job that allows me to live a comfortable life. I have a small start-up company that some day I hope to be able to turn over to my boys that God’s hands are blessing every day.

“His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.” (2 Peter 1:3-4)

My CHALLENGE prayer for you… Put it on God’s throne & don’t look back.. Thank Him as you walk away…

I hope you all have a FABULOUS day… Blessings & much love….D

Trust Can Not Be Just When It’s Convenient

Good Morning my friends

Almost everyday I see people on Facebook having very own pity party. It’s always, “Oh woe as me, I can’t believe this happening.” They never deserve the bad things that are happening in their life but they always deserve all the good things and even more. They never take responsibility. It’s never that their decisions made the mess that they’re waist deep in, instead the buck is passed. I see people call upon and place their trust in God during their valleys but very seldom when they’re on the mountain top.. It’s like they believe that the mountain top is all them and no God..
John the Baptist trusted God with ALL his heart & soul. He didn’t pick and choose what to trust God with but instead he trusted Him in all situations. Jesus tells us in Matthew 11:11, “Truly I tell you, among those born of women there has not risen anyone greater than John the Baptist; yet whoever is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.” The apostle Paul was the same way. Paul praised God while he was in prison.

“When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise— in God I trust and am not afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?” (Psalm 56:3-4)

Every time you affirm your trust in God, you put a coin into His treasury. You make deposits of equity in preparation for your days of trouble. God keeps safely in His heart all the trust that you invest in Him with interest compounded daily or even hourly. The more you trust God, the more He empowers you to do so. Practice trusting God during your quiet days, when nothing much seems to be happening. Then when storms come, your trust balance will be sufficient to see you through all of them. Store up for yourself treasure in heaven, through placing your trust in God, this will keep you in His Peace.

Do you trust God with your heart & soul? What about your finances? If you say yes, Do you tithe? You say I can barely make it on 100% much less 90.. TRUST…

Do you make excuses why you cant go to church? Churches are filled with hypocrites!! I don’t want to be out that late… It’s too far… TRUST……

“But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Matthew 6:20-2)

My CHALLENGE prayer for you…. TRUST God with your heart & soul…

I hope you all have a TREMENDOUS day… Blessings & much love….D

Obstacles & Setbacks are a Good Thing

Good Morning my friends,

God is for you and with you at all times.. When you make the decision to go down a path that’s in line with God’s will for you, nothing in heaven or on earth can stop you. Yes, you will encounter many obstacles while you’re on your God inspired journey however you shouldn’t get discouraged or ever give up! God will help you overcome all the obstacles that you encounter. You should never expect an easy path in your hand and hand journey with God, but remember that He is your ever present Helper. He is omnipotent. Don’t allow stress to enter your life because you’re wanting to make things happen according to your timing. One of the main ways God asserts His Sovereignty is in the timing of events. If you want to stay close to God and do things His Way, ask Him to show you the path moment by moment. Instead of sprinting towards your the end just let God set your pace. Slow down, and enjoy the journey in His Presence.

“What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?”(Romans 8:31)

Have you ever encountered nothing but roadblocks and/or setbacks in something that you felt that God was leading you to do? In February 2011, I felt I was being called to the ministry again after running from Him for 20 years. Keri & I prayed about it day & night for several weeks and I finally submitted. I assumed that since my calling was inspired by God that it would be obstacle & roadblock free. Much to my chagrin, my God inspired calling has had so many obstacles and ups & downs that I feel like I’ve been on a non-stop roller coaster. All of my obstacles have allowed me to keep God at the center of my life and more importantly to make decisions that are Biblically based and not according to the will of my flesh.

“For no word from God will ever fail.” (Luke 1:37)

My journey since submitting to my calling has been filled with so many mistakes over the last 3 years. In fact, I hit rock-bottom just 6 short months after submitting to God’s calling. It was during that time that I discovered that before I could accept my calling from God that I had to accept Jesus as my personal Savior.. I’ve learned that with each obstacle not to become discouraged but instead use it as an opportunity to draw closer to God and become more dependent upon Him. God could’ve made it easy on me after I submitted to His calling. He could’ve paved my path with ease but what good would that have done. Would my faith have grown as much as it had? Would my testimony have the same impact as it has now? Would I be as dependent on God and His Grace & Mercy? Probably not. The obstacles that I’ve faced since surrendering have made me into the man that
I am today. I have to be honest, there have been times when I’ve became impatient and wanted things to move a lot faster than what God is moving them but I try to remind myself that my timing is not perfect but God’s timing is perfect. God is molding me into the man that He wants me to become. I pray each day for God to lead me down His path, to protect me from the evils of the world, to expand my boundaries & vision, and to allow me to be the light to the world that He wants me to be.

“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.” (Psalm 46:1-3)

My CHALLENGE prayer for you. Don’t be discouraged by obstacles. Allow God to lead you on your journey.

I hope you all have a WONDERFUL day… Blessings & much love….D
